The Ripon College Center for Politics and the People hosted a webinar on February 25, 2021, called “Why Peace is Possible.” The featured speaker was Dr. Lynne Woehrle, director of Sustainable Peacebuilding Programs and associate professor in the College of Nursing, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The webinar addressed why we should be optimistic in a time when violence and inhumanity seem to be winning. It examined major barriers to peace and opportunities for peacebuilding. Through the lens of gender and race, the speaker explored pathways to a more just and humane world and considered personal and structural changes that lead to peaceful co-existence by introducing the concepts of peacebuilding, resilient communities, and restorative justice.
